Flowers for Those You Love
The custom of giving flowers has been around for ages. The tradition actually dates back to the prehistoric times as they have been found in ancient Chinese writings, Egyptian inscriptions and Greek mythology. The tradition exploded in the middle ages as part of the courtship process and continues today. Today, we send flowers for all occasions and have many options from where to get them. A few of the best places online are 1-800-Flowers and Florist.com.
What should you send??? Here’s a quick quide:
St. Valentines Day – Roses, Roses, Roses! Nothing else needs to be said except mabye Red.
Birthday – Anything Bright and cheerful. The favorite flower of the recipient is always a good choice.
Anniversary – Most anything goes here. Try and match the “personality” of the couple to the flowers. A surprise would be perfect.
Wedding - Seasonal flowers usually work best. Pastel, light flowers usually work best early in the year while darker, more vibrant colors work beter in the fall.
Christmas - You can’t go wrong with a poinsettia. For flowers, stick with white and red (or pink) and make sure there is plenty of green in the arangement. Including holly (with red berries) is great.
Easter - Lilies, white roses and carnations are great.
Thanksgiving - Lots of browns and oranges. Include roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, daises, marigolds, wheat and dried grasses. Also include some fall vegetables; pumpkins, squash…
Mother’s Day – Anything with a lot of fragrance. Carnations, lilies, and scented narissi.
Father’s Day - Something sturdy. Blooming roses or long lasting tropical flowers. It doesn’t need to be a flower, any plant will do.
New Baby – Brightly colored flowers. Anything to brighten up the room that is full of life.
Sympath and Funeral – Make sure it is white! Gladiolas, carnatios and daises.
Get Well – Bright flowers. Bright red or yellow with a creative vase is great.
