Novelty Phones – Past, Present and Future
Phones are such a useful way of talking to someone, it is a wonder how we ever coped without them.
The days have long past when the humble telephone would be available to buy as a one style suits all. Nowadays phones are available in all sorts of shapes and sizes, colours and ringtones. You can buy them as novelty phones too.
Novelty phones are an excellent idea to share news with your colleagues but also add a novel way to make it more fun. The ringtones have altered from old style telephones through the years from the 1920s passing through to the the 1950s like a diner phone. Maybe those Granny and Grandad’s may remember the finger dialling phone in the colors of – bright reds or blue. Later the par for course became the Trim phone with it is very recognizable ringer.
As the years flew by, the rotary dialling phones were modernised by the new push button phones. These succeeded the dialling phones. Later came the cordless phone. These phones could mean that you didn’t have to actually stand or sit during a conversation by the phone socket. This meant you could walk around while talking on the phone. Telephones also became wall mounted not just sat on a table top. The materials varied from wood to plastic. It became very popular to own! Great masses of homeowners now purchased a telephone to the point that phones were being situated in many rooms of the house.
Children now own character phones that were similar to their favourite Disney character such as Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse or Pluto, the list is neverending.
Most males love their boy toys gadgets and enjoyed the Star Wars characters such as R2D2 or Darth Vader. Even Dads have got in on the act by owning a phone in the guise of a golf buggy, car or Dr Who Tardis. Mums, so not to be left out have their own special favourites too like a red stiletto shoe or a pair of red lips.
The novelty item has also found its way in other areas over the years such as novelty salt and pepper grinders of which there are numerous designs and many of them very collectable.
All these phones still have a fundamental use in common and that is communication, but it is now not the case that one style suits all. Everyone has their own personality and everyone likes to have something that is different from others showing their own individual design and flair.
